Big Day For The Narrow-gauges

Culture Local News

The Culture Park of Nagyerdő will hold a Narrow-gauge Day in the Fun-fair of Debrecen, on 14th July.

The narrow-gauge is cluttering along for 50 years in the Fun-fair of Debrecen. The narrow-gauge was conveyed in 1960; at first the pioneers used it. In the 1980s it was threatened by close-down, since the railway was in a pretty bad condition, says the official website. At the moment, the state of the railway, that is 1100 metres long, is perfect. The narrow-gauge is extremely popular among the children, and it fits exactly into the atmosphere of the fun-fair and the zoo.

The narrow-gauge joined to the Hungarian Transportation Cultural Foundation in 1992, for the good of railway togetherness and to save the railway on a long term.

The railway has had more than 2 million passengers during the past 50 years. At present, the number of visitors is about 25 thousands in a year. Certainly many of them decide to visit the Culture Park this year again.
