University of Debrecen – 6600 students admitted

Local News University

The heads of the institution announced at a press conference on Wednesday that 6611 students had been admitted to the university for the next semester highlighting that the interest for the natural sciences and teacher training hasn’t grown.

In September, 3120 students can start BSc training, 1168 students MSc training, 364 students were admitted to the 5-year programme and 160 to higher-level vocational training, as Rector István Fábián announced at the press conference. He noted that despite that fact that the number of admittable students has been drastically reduced, the university still maintains its popularity: after ELTE, the University of Debrecen received the highest number of first-place applications. Those applying to international business programme were the ones who needed the highest points (464) but points above 400 were necessary for admittance to the faculties of medicine and dentistry, to the programmes of andragogy,  English Studies, communication and media studies, politology, psychology, sociology and to music studies. Vice Rector András Jávor said that the interest for natural science and teacher training programmes hasn’t grown at all, it has declined, rather.
