Mothers’ Milk Bank reopens

Local News

The recently closed mothers’ milk bank will be opened again on Wednesday.

Lajos Kósa, mayor of Debrecen held a press conference yesterday afternoon in which he said that the government insured 50 million Forints to maintain the cooperation between the Kenézy Hospital and the university.

In 2003, 7 300 liters of milk were collected in the bank, while in 2013 this number reduced to 2 400. The mayor said that they wished to encourage mothers to bring milk to the bank so the value of the milk was to be increased. In the past one liter mother’s milk cost 1 800 Forints, from now on it will be 3 000 Forints per liter.

Lajos Kósa and György Balla, leader of the children’s clinic, made this decision together; since the mothers’ milk bank is a one and only facility in Hajdú-Bihar County, it was a necessity to reopen it.
