The American Corner Debrecen created an event, called How Safe Is Your Food? – World Health Day that starts at 6 pm this evening.

Every year, World Health Organization selects a priority area of global public health concern as the theme for World Health Day, which falls on 7 April, the birthday of the Organization.

World Health Day 2015 is about Food Safety.

Come and join an informative Fun Fact presentation where you can learn about Food Safety on a daily basis in your kitchen at home. As our food supply becomes increasingly globalized new threats are constantly emerging. Food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances is responsible for more than 200 diseases, ranging from diarrhea to cancers. Be informed to ensure that the food on your plate is safe to eat.

Do you know what you eat when you open a bag of chips, or eat a chocolate bar? Do you know what E102, E 129, E320 or Tartrazine, Benzoic Acid, Aspartame used for?

We encourage participants to bring your favorite food, snack, or just the packaging that contents the ingredients. Or you can also just bring a picture on your phone or tablet.

We’ll take a look at the ingredient list and see what you put in your tummy and how these affect your health.
