The University of Debrecen is Not So Green…

The University of Debrecen is in the mid-range of an international list that ranked colleges and universities based on their environmental avareness.Main points of the Green Metric Ranking of World Universities were the followings:

  • Collecting the rubbish selectively.
  • Green areas on the campus.
  • Using water-saving equipment.
  • Taking steps against climate change.
  • Measures introduced to help environmental awareness.

The University of Indonesia has been creating the list of the “greenest” universities and colleges since 2010. In the first year only 95 institution gave their data, while in 2016 almost 520 unis and colleges participated in creating the list.

The University of Debrecen was the 311th on the list in 2016. Other Hungarian institutions were also ranked: the  University of Szeged, Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Pécs, Szent István University, Budapest Corvinus University, the University of Miskolc and the University of Óbuda.

American University of California Davis is the “greenest” uni in the world, followed by the British University of Nottingham and the Dutch Wageningen University & Research.
