This year’s Power Plant Night programme in Hajdú-Bihar County is expanding with two new locations: in Debrecen, the water production facility will open its doors, while in Hajdúszoboszló, visitors can tour the FGSZ compressor station.
At Hungary’s most popular energy-sector event, visitors will be able to take a behind-the-scenes look at how energy and utility services operate at a total of six locations on October 16.
At the Debrecen locations, visitors can learn not only about energy production and district heating, but also about the journey of water. At the water production facility, they can follow the process by which extracted water enters the city’s water supply system, while at the New Garden section of the Utility Tunnel Corridor, they can also walk underground through almost 14 kilometres of utility tunnels.
At the Debrecen E.ON and Veolia power plants, visitors can learn about the process of generating electricity and heat. At the surface drinking water treatment plant on the Keleti Main Canal, they can discover the technology used to produce drinking water.
In Hajdúszoboszló, the new FGSZ location will offer a different perspective on energy supply. At the compressor station, visitors can see at close range how high-pressure natural gas transmission works and what technology is used to deliver natural gas to homes, power plants and large industrial consumers.
Organisers are once again expecting several thousand visitors at this year’s Power Plant Night. Guided by professionals, participants can gain insight into the operation of facilities that form the foundation of everyday energy and utility services. They can learn about the processes involved in energy generation and distribution, as well as the complex systems that ensure the continuous availability of electricity, heat, drinking water and natural gas.
The programme also highlights the fact that responsible management of available natural resources is a shared responsibility. Participants can learn how energy producers and service providers adapt to changing consumption demands, and why conscious use of energy and water is important in households.
Maintaining the continuous operation of energy and utility services requires not only modern technology, but also the coordinated work of skilled professionals. During Power Plant Night, visitors can also learn about the work processes and professional tasks that contribute to maintaining security of supply.
The professional fields presented during the event also demonstrate that the utility sector offers opportunities in many different areas. In addition to young people interested in engineering and natural sciences, there are opportunities for those interested in IT, control engineering, economics and other related fields. Ensuring a new generation of professionals is an important goal for the sector, which is why Power Plant Night also gives young people approaching their career choices an opportunity to learn first-hand about utility-related professions, the work carried out by employees and the professional opportunities available in these industries.
District Heating Day
Power Plant Night will once again be accompanied by District Heating Day this year. The Hungarian Association of District Heating Companies (MaTáSzSz), together with participating district heating providers and heat producers, will offer programmes and guided facility tours across the country as part of the event. Visitors can learn about the process of producing heat energy and delivering it to buildings, as well as the role district heating plays in modern and efficient energy use.
The Power Plant Night programmes are free of charge, but registration is required. Registration for the individual locations opens at 10 a.m. on October 1 via www.eromuvekejszakaja.hu. The number of places varies by location and is limited, so early registration is recommended.
