Doctors who graduated from the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Medicine 70, 65, 60 or 50 years ago received ruby, iron, diamond and gold jubilee diplomas on Sunday. More than 100 doctors celebrating milestone anniversaries were honoured at the ceremony held at the university.
“It is an honour for me to welcome you back here with sincere appreciation, you who received your medical degrees 70, 65, 60 or 50 years ago,” said Professor Norbert Németh, Dean of the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Medicine, in his ceremonial address.
The dean added that the university had become a true home of learning for all of them, while its iconic buildings and locations, the unique atmosphere of the Nagyerdő area, their university years, teachers, professors and fellow students, the atmosphere of the city and the many memories they shared together all form the essence of their Alma Mater.
“You have achieved a great deal through your dedicated work and in accordance with your medical oath, serving the interests of patients and setting an example for younger generations in medical practices, clinics and hospital wards, as teachers and researchers, from the university lectern, or as university leaders and members of professional organisations, in several cases at their helm. Thank you and our appreciation for all you have done,” the dean said.
He added: “Personally, I also owe many of you my sincere thanks, as I had the opportunity to learn from you and look up to you. Through your dedicated work, you have all contributed to the good reputation of our Alma Mater.”
On behalf of the jubilee doctors, academician Professor László Csiba welcomed the participants and used photographs to recall memorable moments from their university years.
“Occasions like this provide an excellent opportunity to recall the good old days and memories of the distant past – both the pleasant ones and those that may have been less joyful. However, I believe that this reunion gives us an opportunity for something much more important as well: to pause for a moment and look at ourselves – at who we once were, the dreams that guided us at the time, and the path we have travelled since then. I hope that we have represented our Alma Mater, which once sent us out into the world, in a worthy manner,” Professor László Csiba said.
More than 100 jubilee doctors were honoured at Sunday’s ceremony organised by the Faculty of Medicine. Those who graduated 70 years ago received ruby diplomas, those who graduated 65 years ago received iron diplomas, those who graduated 60 years ago received diamond diplomas, while doctors who began their medical careers 50 years ago received gold jubilee diplomas.
