The parking system in Debrecen and the opening hours of DV Parking’s customer service will change during the carnival week marking the celebrations of the founding of the Hungarian state, King Saint Stephen and the new bread.
In addition, a number of parking spaces operated by DV Parking will be unavailable to ensure the smooth running of the events.
On Thursday, August 20, surface parking in Debrecen will be free of charge. Parking in underground garages will remain subject to fees on that day. The customer service office will be closed.
On Friday, August 21, the usual weekday parking rules will apply, meaning parking in spaces operated by DV Parking will be subject to charges. The customer service office will also be closed on this day.
For the remainder of the long weekend, the usual Saturday and Sunday parking rules will apply in Debrecen.
The customer service office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24. In the meantime, DV Parking’s AI-powered chatbot, Parker, available on the company’s website, can provide assistance with simpler questions at any time of day.
Road closures and unavailable parking spaces
As drivers have become accustomed to during the carnival period, traffic arrangements on several public roads in Debrecen will change due to closures imposed by the authorities. During the following periods and at the following locations, paid parking spaces operated by DV Parking will be unavailable:
- From 6 p.m. on August 17 until approximately 10 p.m. on August 18: Szent Anna Street between Klaipeda Street and Piac Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 17 until approximately 10 p.m. on August 18: the odd-numbered side of Piac Street between Miklós Street and Vásáry István Street, as well as Petőfi Square between Vásáry István Street and Erzsébet Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 17 until approximately 10 p.m. on August 18: Hatvan Street between Bethlen Street and Kossuth Square.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately noon on August 20: Petőfi Square between Erzsébet Street and Holló János Street; both sides of Piac Street; and Hatvan Street between Kossuth Square and Pásti Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 20: the even-numbered side of Piac Street between Holló János Street and Szent Anna Street; both sides of Piac Street between Szent Anna Street and Kossuth Square; and Hatvan Street between Kossuth Square and Pásti Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until midnight on August 20, or until the carnival procession has passed: Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street between Piac Street and Pásti Street; Darabos Street between Hunyadi Street and Kálvin Square; Fűvészkert Street; and Múzeum Street between Fűvészkert Street and Déri Square.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until midnight on August 20: both sides of Déri Square and Múzeum Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 10 p.m. on August 20: Bethlen Street between Hatvan Street and Hunyadi Street; Hunyadi Street between Péterfia Street and Bethlen Street; and Mester Street between Csemete Street and Bethlen Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until midnight on August 20, or until the procession has passed: Bethlen Street between Hatvan Street and Hunyadi Street, as well as between Hunyadi Street and Honvéd Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until midnight on August 20, or until the carnival procession has passed: Egyetem Avenue between Honvéd Street and Füredi Road.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 2 p.m. on August 20, or until the carnival procession has passed: Egyetem Avenue between Füredi Road and Egyetem Square.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 3 p.m. on August 20: Egyetem Avenue between Egyetem Square and Komlóssy Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 2 p.m. on August 20, or until the carnival procession has passed: Bólyai Street between Hatvani István Street and Dóczy József Street.
- From 6 p.m. on August 18 until approximately 2 p.m. on August 20, or until the carnival procession has passed: Dóczy József Street between Egyetem Square and Békessy Béla Street.
Visitors arriving for the festive programmes are advised to use public transport and DV Parking’s underground garages, which are subject to a uniform fee of HUF 580 per hour every day.
For events in the city centre, visitors can use the Sas Street, Kölcsey Centre, Hal Köz, Bethlen Street and Court of Appeal underground garages. For programmes around the stadium, the Nagyerdei underground garage is available.
