Production has not yet started at CATL’s cell manufacturing plant in Debrecen. In recent months, the company has been commissioning production equipment and carrying out preparations for trial production.
In accordance with applicable regulations, CATL Debrecen has been conducting routine biological exposure monitoring among its employees since early June 2026. Results received in early August showed elevated nickel exposure in nine employees. The company subsequently notified the relevant authorities, which carried out three on-site inspections at the facility between August 11 and 25. During the inspections, deficiencies related to personal protective equipment were identified in some cases, and the company remedied these within a short period of time.
The investigation into the source of the nickel exposure is ongoing. In light of the circumstances identified so far, the company has suspended the ongoing commissioning of the equipment. It is also continuing regular biological exposure monitoring of its employees and introducing even stricter occupational safety measures.
During the authorities’ latest inspection on August 25, no occupational health problems were identified at the company. CATL Debrecen remains in continuous contact with the relevant authorities to fully eliminate occupational safety risks and continues to place a strong emphasis on the health and safety of its employees.
