Last Thursday, a notification was received by the waterworks that water was leaking through the pavement on Erzsébet Street in Debrecen.
The company said that immediate action was needed before personal injury or significant property damage occurs.
The fault has been rectified on a 300 mm diameter steel pipe more than 50 years old,
but the age and condition of this affected line section was so poor that it would have been irresponsible to bury it again after the point-by-point error correction had been performed, as an error might have occurred the next day at another nearby point.
The only responsible decision is the complete replacement of the 66 m long pipeline section. Unfortunately, the circumstances do not allow the use of uncovered technology, so it must be done in an open trench method.
Due to the volume and complexity of the work, it also requires significant organization, and it also needs technological time. The special concrete layer has a long setting time, during which time no further work is possible on site.
Due to the complex preparation, work can begin on Monday, October 4, and the expected duration of the work will be one month.
