Cross-border health cooperation from EU funds

As a result of cooperation between the University of Debrecen Medical and Health Science Center (University of Debrecen) and Satu Mare County Emergency Hospital the two institutions develop obstetric and gynecologic departments from EU funds. The contract was signed on Monday in Debrecen by both institutions’ representatives.

 The Hungary-Romania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. (www.huro-cbc.eu) is considered as an important issue in both countries – said Attila Tóth, Hajdu-Bihar County Council Vice President and Stef Mihai Adrian, Satu Mare County Council President.

The sum of 1.96 million EUR won in support of health care institutions will be used to develop the infrastructure. Among others, the most advanced surgical operating table and laparoscopic equipment will be purchased.

An amount of 1,181,511 EUR was won, which will be spent on the edifice of the hospital. Single-bed rooms, bathrooms, air-conditioning and fire protection system will be developed.

Magdolna Kalapáti, director of the VÁTI Nonprofit Organisation regards as a key strategic objective in cross-border projects to bring together people living in the border regions and the organizations operating there. The tenders take into consideration cross-border infrastructure development and the growing of economic cohesion – she said.

The investment is financed by the European Regional Development Fund with 85 percent. The co-financing is provided by the two states, while Hungary had 5%, Romania 2% of own contribution.
