The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) declared the Institute for Nuclear Research of Debrecen (ATOMKI) as historical site because of its outstanding researches in physics.

The memorial plaque was inaugurated by John Dudley, who reminded the audience that Gyula Csikai carried out his nuclear physics researches in this building in 1956. His findings confirmed the existence of neutrinos, thus contributed to the development of modern physics.  József Pálinkás, president of the MTA, former director of ATOMKI, said that this research was so influential that it appeared in school textbooks as well.
