Last week, one of the judges of the Debrecen District Court resigned after an audio recording was played during the trial of a budget fraud case involving several defendants, on which it was heard that Judge Antal Kálmánczi had told in advance in a confidential conversation what verdict the actors could expect, reports 24.hu.
Dénes Dobó, the press spokesman of the Debrecen Court, wrote to the newspaper that
The lawyers involved in the ongoing criminal proceedings for the crime of budget fraud and other crimes made a motion to disqualify the judge, the consideration of which became moot due to the fact that on October 13, 2023, dr. Antal Kálmánczi resigned from his position as a judge without giving reasons.
Kálmánczi’s name was removed from the judicial register of the National Court Office. According to the removed data sheet, he previously headed the tribunal’s anti-corruption task force.
