Socialist MEP István Ujhelyi is turning to the courts to obtain data on government support for Hungarian hotels worth three billion forints (EUR 83.6m).

Ujhelyi said the government and the Hungarian Tourism Agency had failed to publish data of public interest regarding the details of the transaction within the legally binding deadlines. Ujhelyi said financial support was being channelled to entrepreneurs close to the government, adding that rather than helping the sector hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic as a whole, the government parties were seeking to “profit” from the crisis. “SMEs and hundreds of thousands of Hungarians are waiting for substantial support, or at least genuine solidarity from the government,” Ujhelyi said.
