Freedom Quilt on 4 June

Date: 4 June at 5-8 p.m.

Venue: American Corner Debrecen

During this afternoon artist Christalena Hughmanick will speak about American quilting histories, provide basic sewing instruction in English and facilitate participants to make their own quilt squares which will be sewn together into a large quilt work and exhibited.

Materials and supplies will be provided.

About the project:

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the regime change in Hungary and the formation of the Hungarian Patchwork Guild (HPG) in 1989, US Embassy Budapest invited United States based textile artist, educator and quilt scholar Christalena Hughmanick to realize a country wide project in Hungary.

During the summer, Christalena will travel to the American Corners in Hungary to provide brief informational lectures on the history of US quilting and basic quilt making instruction for participants.

About the artist:

Christalena Hughmanick is an artist working in textiles, sculpture, and performance. She received her Masters In Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012 where she is currently a Lecturer in the Fiber and Material Studies Department. She is currently on a Fulbright Fellowship for the 2018-19 academic year as a resident Lecturer & Researcher at the Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem in Budapest, Hungary.
