A man from Debrecen initially intended to buy drugs at the train station but, after moving aside with the dealer, pulled a knife and took the man’s wallet. He could face years in prison.
According to the indictment, on the evening of June 13, 2024, the man wanted to buy drugs near the Debrecen train station. He met the victim there, and they began negotiating before entering the station’s public restroom. However, once inside, the perpetrator decided to steal the dealer’s valuables. He held a knife to the man’s neck and ordered him to empty his pockets. The victim did not comply and tried to push the knife away from his neck, resulting in a cut to his hand. During the struggle, the perpetrator seized the man’s wallet containing cash and identification documents and then fled the scene.
The accused took 5,500 forints from the wallet and threw it, along with the identification documents, into a street trash can. The victim suffered injuries that required more than eight days to heal. Some of the financial loss was recovered when he found the discarded wallet and documents based on information from an acquaintance.
During the investigation by the Debrecen Police Department, the victim requested compensation for his losses. The police detained the perpetrator, who remains in custody.
The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office charged the man with armed robbery, aggravated assault, misuse of official documents, and misuse of a cash-substitute payment instrument. In the indictment, they proposed that if the man pleads guilty, the Debrecen District Court should sentence him to seven years in prison, ban him from public affairs for seven years, and order him to compensate the victim.
