The publisher of the famous British higher educational institution, Oxford University, is to open its brand-new European technology centre in Budapest. For the centre of Oxford University Press (OUP) requiring some 100 qualified developers and IT specialists, the availability of the necessary labour in the region was considered to be ensured in Hungary.

OUP, which was founded in 1586, is the largest university press in the world, which today has offices in 50 countries, including Hungary. The mission of the press belonging to the Oxford University is to improve education and research with its publications. Their products and services are available in more than 100 languages and over 200 countries; for example, the Headway series, also well-known in Hungary, enabled more than 100 million students from 127 countries to learn English.

The press invests considerable resources in developing its platforms, as well as the operating technology behind them, therefore there is an ever-growing need for proper digital developers’ knowledge, which they plan to serve by the Budapest unit. According to the plans, in the following one to one and a half years, the headcount of the Budapest team might reach its full capacity, i.e. about 100 persons. Recruitment has already commenced for the newly established positions, and the Hungarian professionals will work together with the existing global technology groups of the press. Among others, OUP is looking for professionals in charge of cloud-based systems, programming and software development.
