Adorable lemur babies at the zoo

Ring-tailed lemur (Lemur Catta) babies were born on March 19 and on 23rd at the Debrecen Zoo. After 4 months of gestation newcomers are only 80 grams now so the little ones are clinging their mother’s hair all day.

Lemur Cattas originally native on Madagascar and the species threatened mainly by habitat destruction. Today, it is estimated that 90% of Madagascar’s original forest cover has been lost, so number of ring-tailed lemur population is significantly decreased. A species being listed as endangered by World Conservation Union (IUCN) and at the Debrecen Zoo they living by the European Species Rescue Program (EAZA EEP). Visitors can meet ring-tailed lemurs face to face from Easter.
