The Municipality of Debrecen has launched coordinated cleaning operations covering paid parking areas, roadways, and service roads, the city leadership announced.
They stated that, with the involvement of public sanitation service providers, the municipality regularly and systematically collects litter and removes accumulated debris along curbs and around drainage inlets, contributing to improving the cityscape and enhancing road safety.
Parking lot cleaning includes the full cleaning of parking areas and their immediate surroundings. During the works, foreign materials that have built up along road edges and curbs—such as dust, gravel, composted leaves, and weeds growing from curb cracks—are removed using both machinery and manual labor. As part of the cleaning process, parking ticket machines are also cleaned and disinfected with chemicals.
To remove dirt accumulated over the winter, parking cleaning works across the entire city will begin even before the traditional spring deep-cleaning program. The works will be carried out in phases. In order to ensure comprehensive cleaning while maintaining parking availability, parking lots will be partially closed in sections.
The operations are being conducted in cooperation with the Green Areas Department and the City Operations Department of the Mayor’s Office of Debrecen, the Debrecen Public Area Supervision Authority, DV Parking Ltd., and specialized cleaning contractors.
Taking residents’ convenience into account, the phased parking closures and cleaning will take place during daytime hours between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Evening parking will proceed as usual.
Work will begin on February 16, 2026, in the Ispotály and Vargakert districts.
In the interest of maintaining the city’s cleanliness and livability, the Municipality of Debrecen kindly asks motorists to follow traffic restrictions and signage, and to leave affected parking spaces and road sections free during the scheduled cleaning times. This will assist maintenance teams in ensuring that public areas remain orderly and that the work proceeds smoothly.
During the operations, one side of the parking areas will be closed at a time to allow continued parking on site. However, if alternative parking is directly available nearby, the entire affected parking area may be closed.
