Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Tuesday met Sahiba Gafarova, the head of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly, to discuss bilateral ties in energy policy, education and trade.

Orbán and Gafarova agreed that Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy supply will increase in the coming years, as gas fields in the area will be increasingly exploited. Cooperation in education is also becoming stronger, with 900 Azeri applicants for government grants to study in Hungary this year, they said. Trade volume between Hungary and Azerbaijan has jumped by 88% this year, they said. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also attended the meeting, the PM’s press chief, Bertalan Havasi, said.
