The Debrecen Summer School has started on Monday. 180 students (from more than 30 countries) are attending the courses of the oldest and greatest summer school of Hungary, informed us Péter Szaffkó, manager of Debrecen Summer School.
According to his report, the most students have arrived from Germany and Poland, the USA, Italy and France, but there are students from New Zealand, Argentina, Latvia, Iceland and India, too. It is the first time that a student applied from Uganda – as a present, his participation int he summer school is free.
20 attending students can study with the help of scolarships – local organizations and enterprizes offered this form of patronage. As Prof. András Jávor, Vice Rector for Education said, the financing of the summer school and its scholarships should be reformed.
The youngest student is 10 (he has come with his parents), the oldest is 71 years old. The participants get acquainted with Hungarian language, literature, music, folklore and history.
But not only foreign students participate in the Summer School. From this year, the future teachers of Hungarian language attend the courses as trainees, due to the cooperation of Debrecen Summer School and Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church.
The programs of the summer school are supplemented by a dictionary exhibition by Akadémiai Kiadó, the presentation on the electric car developed by the Faculty of Science and Technology, and a bioshop by Centre for Agricultural and Applied Economic Sciences.
