Lajos Kósa, mayor of Debrecen announced that Debrecen organizes the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in 2016.
The mayor said that he made an agreement with Ottavio Cinquanta, President of the International Skating Union and member of the Skating Committee, that Debrecen will be the host of the 2016 World Junior Figure Skating Championships. Kósa and Cinquanta met and made the agreement at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
The Hungarian National Skating Association ran for organizing the junior figure skating championships in March 2013.
This will be the fourth time that the city of Debrecen organizes a skating championship.
