Record-breaking cold in Hungary

Tésa, a village in Pest County, broke cold record on Sunday night: the temperature was -28,1 Celsius degrees.

Until Sunday dawn, the record was -26,5 Celsius that was measured in Romhány, Nógrád County in 1985. On 8 January 1985, the average temperature was -4,2 Celsius degrees, while in 2017 it was -16,8 degrees.

Cold weather alert was issued by the Hungarian Meteorologist Center for the following counties: Nógrád, Pest, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Csongrád, Fejér, Hajdú-Bihar, Komárom-Esztergom, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Tolna.
