The weekend was not smooth at Debrecen Airport

Local News

In recent days, two events occurred at Debrecen International Airport that may have caused inconvenience to travelers.

On June 7, 2025, Wizz Air’s flight from Cyprus to Debrecen was unable to depart due to a technical malfunction. As a result, a relief aircraft was sent from Budapest to Debrecen, which transported the departing passengers to Cyprus with minimal delay. On the return trip, due to Wizz Air’s operational scheduling, the flight landed in Budapest with a significant delay, and passengers were then transported by bus to Debrecen — according to a post on Debrecen International Airport’s social media page.

The first Antalya charter flight of Itaka Hungary, operated by Tailwind Airlines, was also delayed. The aircraft, which was arriving empty from Antalya on June 8, 2025, was diverted to Košice due to stormy weather and only arrived in Debrecen on Monday. It was scheduled to depart for Turkey at 12:50 p.m., but the captain cited weight restrictions and stated that he could only transport about half of the passengers’ luggage — the statement continues.

“We cannot confirm the justification for this, and thus we were left puzzled by the decision,”

— reported Debrecen Airport, whose management apologized on behalf of the airlines for the inconvenience caused to Debrecen passengers.
