Debrecen has been selected as the only Hungarian city by Europe’s leading travel portal, European Best Destinations (EBD), as one of the Top 20 nominees in the “European Best Christmas Markets” category. This prestigious recognition means that the Debrecen Advent is already one of Europe’s outstanding festive destinations and has a real chance to rank among the continent’s best Christmas markets.
Previous nominees have included long-established markets in cities such as Gdansk, Basel, Strasbourg, Zagreb, Vienna, and Tallinn. Debrecen has now joined the ranks of these internationally recognized cities that have shaped Europe’s Christmas tourism for many years.
Voting process:
The final ranking will be determined by public votes. Voting is open during the following period:

November 20–27, 2025 (8 days in total)

Technically, voting opens at midnight on November 19 and closes at 11:59 on November 27 (Brussels time).

One vote per IP address per day is allowed, meaning everyone can vote for Debrecen once daily.

No registration is required to vote.

The voting link will be provided by EBD; the official site will become the voting page on November 20, and results will be published there on November 27 at 16:00.
All nominees, including Debrecen, will be entitled to use the European Best Christmas Market title and logo.
In recent years, Debrecen Advent has developed spectacularly and now offers an experience that is outstanding not only nationally but also internationally. The city’s festive offerings, charming Christmas market, cultural programs, and family-friendly attractions have rightly placed Debrecen among Europe’s most attractive Christmas destinations.
