Government Proposes Display of ‘National Avowal’ in Public Institutions

National

Marking the tenth anniversary of Hungary’s Fundamental Law, the government will display the National Avowal, a credo of values preceding the preamble of the Fundamental Law, in its buildings and encourages public institutions to do the same, the Government Information Centre (KTK) said.

Government, public administration and local government institutions are also encouraged to display the Avowal in prominent areas of public buildings, to honour the Hungarian nation around its national holiday on August 20, KTK said. “In a Europe plagued with crises, the government sees it as especially important to symbolically strengthen the values that helped Hungary and Hungarians survive through the centuries,” KTK said. The two-page National Avowal contains proclamations on the roots and values of the Hungarian state, including: “We are proud that our king Saint Stephen built the Hungarian State on solid ground and made our country a part of Christian Europe one thousand years ago. We are proud of our forebears who fought for the survival, freedom and independence of our country. We are proud of the outstanding intellectual achievements of the Hungarian people.”
