On the first morning of the opening of a humanitarian transit point at BOK Hall, near Keleti railway station in Budapest, hundreds of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine were given help, the Prime Minister’s Office told MTI.

The new round-the-clock facility offers interpreters, medical services, space for mothers with small children, internet access and bathrooms in a heated area, the office said in a statement. Staff are available to help with organising accommodation, travel and administration of asylum applications, the office said. Charity organisations are also on hand to distribute food, toiletries and other donations to the people fleeing war, the statement said, adding that an international ticket office is also located at the facility. Refugees who wish to stay for a few days in Hungary are being accommodated by humanitarian organisations. Those who want a longer stay in Hungary are informed about job opportunities, the statement said.
