The University of Debrecen hosted a workshop on Friday to introduce potential partners from the industrial and agricultural sectors. The main goal of the event was to strengthen existing relationships between higher education institution and economic actors and to facilitate the creation of new long-term collaborations.

The University of Debrecen’s Chemistry Coordination Institute sought potential business partners open to the practical application of university research and willing to share their experiences in this regard with the institution. The participating company executives presented their company profiles, results, applied technologies, developments, and plans.

The University of Debrecen’s Vice-Rector for Life Sciences emphasized that strengthening relationships between the university and industrial partners is a top priority.

“The university wants to be seen not only as a partner but also as a market player. In addition to maintaining basic research, we would like to boost applied research through industrial partnerships. The latter could not only provide a source of funding for us but also give us the opportunity to better understand corporate culture, which would further help us tailor our training to meet the demands of the market,” said József Tőzsér.

The Undersecretary of State for SME Development and Technology at the Ministry for Economic Development believed that universities and small and medium-sized enterprises, which play a significant role in the economy, should cooperate more closely.

“We want to facilitate the use of the knowledge available at universities by smaller companies. Higher education institutions could help such companies through their research, analyses, training, consulting, and incubator programs,” said Richárd Szabados.

The acting director of the DE Chemistry Coordination Institute said that it is of paramount importance for the university’s researchers to increasingly direct their scientific work towards innovation, as these are the activities that can generate benefits for society and the economy.

“With our event, we primarily want to enable the university’s researchers and teachers to better understand the players in the Hungarian and Debrecen industries. Therefore, representatives of both large industries and SMEs are present and are presenting their needs, in which they can imagine cooperation with the researchers of the University of Debrecen,” highlighted Péter Nagy.

The head of the Chemistry Coordination Institute added that cooperation with industrial partners can also contribute to the development of the university’s infrastructure and provide practical experience and job opportunities for students.

Companies participating in the program included NAGISZ Zrt., Science Port Kft., KITE Zrt., Nitrogénművek Zrt., BMW Manufacturing Hungary, Alfaseed Kft., SGS Hungária Kft., Coloplast Hungary Kft., Contemporary Amperex Technology Hungary Kft., the National Drug Research and Development Laboratory, Novartis Hungária Kft., Richter Gedeon Nyrt., Aurigon Labs Zrt., and SONEAS Vegyipari Kft.
