A new chronic internal medicine department has been established at the University of Debrecen Clinical Center’s Gróf Tisza István Campus in Berettyóújfalu. The new division provides the highest level of care for patients requiring complex, long-term examination and treatment for chronic internal medicine conditions. The 22-bed department began operations on February 1.

On Tuesday, the leadership of the Clinical Center and the Gróf Tisza István Campus held a presidential visit to get updated on the department’s professional activities.

“The new department serves the highest level of medical treatment for patients requiring long-term, complex care. The department offers the opportunity for the examination, treatment, and nursing of patients suffering from chronic internal medical diseases,” said Professor Zoltán Szabó, President of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center, to hirek.unideb.hu.

Since July 2023, the Gróf Tisza István Campus has been part of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center and has been providing healthcare services. Professor Zoltán Szabó emphasized that the leadership of the Clinical Center is prioritizing the medical professional development of the campus. The opening of the new chronic internal medicine department is part of a comprehensive development plan.

“We have already begun the development of the Gróf Tisza István Campus and the transformation of the healthcare system within a so-called reorganization plan. In the future, we plan transformations and modernizations in several specialty areas. The leadership’s primary goal is to ensure that the Berettyóújfalu campus continues to develop steadily and provides even higher-quality care to the region’s patients as a full member of the university healthcare system, where everyone receives quality care appropriate to their condition,” added the President of the Clinical Center.

The new chronic internal medicine division, with 22 beds, began admitting patients on February 1.
