Semmelweis Day is a public holiday for healthcare workers, so outpatient specialist care will be suspended on Tuesday, July 1, at all three campuses of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center: the Nagyerdő Campus, Kenézy Gyula Campus, and the Gróf Tisza István Campus in Berettyóújfalu, as well as at the Bethlen Street Outpatient Care Center.
Emergency care services will continue uninterrupted, and inpatient wards will operate with on-call staff as usual.
On this day, healthcare workers commemorate Ignaz Semmelweis, the obstetrician born on July 1, 1818, who recognized the importance of hand disinfection and played a pioneering role in combating puerperal fever.
