Native to Peru, the garden heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens) is a 30-to-60-cm-tall evergreen subshrub with tiny vanilla-scented flowers that form corymbs, with colors ranging between deep blue, indigo, reddish purple, lavender and white.

It has a sweet and inebriating scent, attracting butterflies and moths till September. With its spectacular colors and strongly-veined dark green leaves, it is a magnificent ornament to any garden, preferring sunlit areas with little wind.
