Green liquid incident near Debrecen CATL plant raises concerns, no official update yet

Local News

A day after a strange green liquid surfaced from a drainage system near the CATL plant in Debrecen, no new official update has been released, while questions from residents and local groups remain.

The incident occurred on Tuesday near the factory’s second gate, where a greenish substance was seen bubbling up from a sewer. The unusual phenomenon was first captured on video by a local environmental organization, drawing immediate public attention.

According to reports, disaster management teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident. Local representatives and activists called for an urgent investigation and demanded that both authorities and the company provide clear and immediate information about what had happened.

Later that evening, the company issued a statement explaining that the incident was linked to a technical test. During a pressure test of a storage system at the construction site, contractors used water dyed green to help detect possible leaks. The water was then discharged into the drainage system, but due to a blockage, it resurfaced above ground.

The company stated that the substance was not toxic and posed no environmental risk. Authorities, including disaster management, the government office and the local water utility, also inspected the site and took samples for laboratory analysis.
