Gergely Gulyás, the prime minister’s chief of staff, paid tribute to renowned architect Imre Makovecz, a main proponent of organic architecture in Hungary.

Addressing the convention of the Hungarian Arts Academy (MMA), marking the 10th anniversary of his death, he said: “Makovecz’s oeuvre is a fundamental value of our nation,” adding that Makovecz had been committed to and “fought” to set up the MMA. He highlighted among Makovecz’s designs the Hungarian pavilion at Expo’92 in Seville, the campus of the Pázmany Péter Catholic University and houses built in Hungarian villages hit by the red sludge disaster in 2010. “Makovecz was famous for standing by things that seemed lost if he believed they were worthy of support,” Gulyás said.
