The transport companies belonging to the MÁV-Volán group – MÁV-Start, Volánbusz, MÁV-HÉV – adjusted their schedules for the holidays – the communications directorate of MÁV Zrt. told MTI.
According to the announcement, MÁV-Start trains will run according to the schedule valid for Saturday, December 24, the holiday on December 25, and Sunday, December 26.
On New Year’s Eve and at the beginning of next year, the railway traffic schedule will not change compared to the calendar day, i.e. on Friday the 30th, Saturday the 31st, Sunday on New Year’s Day, and from January 2nd, the trains will run according to the usual working day schedule.
According to the announcement, a significant part of the traffic restrictions previously applied between Christmas and New Year will be lifted on most of the suburban lines in Budapest, and passenger and express trains will provide frequent service even during the working week that falls on the festive period.
As written, during the holiday period from December 22 to January 2, MÁV-Start will connect another 1st-class car to the busiest trains in addition to the IC+ 1st-class and bistro car on the frequented days of the InterCity trains, as well as the 2nd-class train sections are also confirmed, they travel with 1-5 extra cars per flight.
It was also announced that many people are expected to travel by train and bus on Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s, so it is worth buying tickets in advance.
The traffic schedule of Volánbusz’s local and intercity buses will also change: on December 21st, the working day, and on the 22nd and 23rd, the school holiday working day, the services will depart according to the valid schedule.
As in previous years, on December 24, Christmas Eve, the buses will depart according to the holiday schedule. On December 25 and 26, a public holiday on Christmas Day, and on the public holiday before the first school holiday of the week, the buses depart according to the schedule. Many services do not operate from Christmas to New Year.
December 27-30. The buses will run according to the schedule valid for the working days of the school break.
On December 22 and 23, HÉV flights will run according to the schedule valid on the working days of the school break. During the day on December 24, HÉV operates according to the Saturday schedule. On HÉV lines H5, H6, H8, and H9, the possibility of travel is also provided after 4 p.m.
On the night from December 31 to January 1, night travel is provided on all HÉV lines, the announcement states.
