Today, one of Hungary’s largest summer cultural events, the Campus Festival, opens its doors. In Debrecen, over four days, 295 musical acts will entertain visitors across 21 venues. On the opening day, concerts will include Follow The Flow, the American artist Gayle, who boasts millions of listeners and a large fanbase, Beton.Hofi, Európa Kiadó, and BSW.

András Süli, the program director of the Campus Festival, highlighted that there will be international headliners on the Metal-Sheet Main Stage every day, as well as international performers at other venues, coming from thirteen different countries. He also mentioned the non-musical programs: the University of Debrecen, Civil Village, Campus Kid, and Campus Art are preparing many interesting activities. Attendees can look forward to the arrival of television legends such as Tamás Vitray, András Bánó, Bertalan Farkas, Zsuzsa Kertész, György Rózsa, Antónia Erős, Péter Pachmann, and Sándor Torghelle, a former national football player who is soon to make a mark on television.

Péter Miklósvölgyi, managing director of Debreceni Campus Nonprofit Public Benefit Ltd., added that audience interest remains strong this year, with the pre-sale of tickets nearly sold out, over 95% already purchased. He described the venue as five-star, offering significant infrastructure, a built environment, trees, and safe spaces. He also noted that the spectacular closing ceremony of the European University Games and the “Pont Ott Party,” announcing university admission scores, will both take place on the opening day, promising a truly international festival atmosphere.

Every year, the Campus Festival supports a social cause. Last year, 12 million HUF was raised from VIP supporter tickets, part of which was donated to the Regőczi Foundation supporting COVID orphans, and 5 million HUF was spent on school supplies. This year, the collection is for Benjámin Micskó (Beni), a 4-year-old suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, for whom one of the world’s most expensive medications is the only help.

Sustainability is a key aspect of the festival each year. In addition to the long-standing reusable cup system, waste collection and sorting are crucial for sustainability. The goal is to return the Great Forest of Debrecen to its original state after the festival. Due to the venue’s infrastructure, there is no need for environmentally harmful infrastructure investments and tools, such as diesel generators typically used for power generation.

The festival also encourages visitors to use public transportation or bicycles, supported by night buses and bicycle storage facilities.

The festival opens on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 2 PM and closes on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 11 AM, but much will happen in Debrecen until then.
