Medical diagnostic analysts, certified health psychologists, and molecular biologists took their oaths on Saturday at the University of Debrecen. At the closing ceremony of the academic year of the Faculty of Medicine, 91 students—Hungarian and international—received their diplomas.
“On this ceremonial day, let your first thought be one of gratitude. Think of all those who made it possible for you to study—your parents, families, friends, and supporters—and don’t forget your teachers either, who through their dedicated work helped raise you from students to colleagues,” began László Mátyus, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Debrecen, in his address.
The professor emphasized that medical laboratory analytics and molecular biology have undergone tremendous development in recent years. With the spread of gene technology methods, the practical application of immunobiology, pharmacology, and imaging techniques has completely renewed these fields, transforming them into true natural sciences capable of understanding and quantitatively describing the essence of biological processes.
“Today, modern medical science increasingly relies on computer-supported, often automated instruments, digital imaging, and laboratory methods once used solely for research. Gene technology and personalized medicine are becoming integral to everyday practice. A few decades ago, the biggest challenge was acquiring information; today, it is managing and interpreting vast amounts of data. Solving this requires far more advanced theoretical and practical knowledge than ever before,” Mátyus said.
He added that beyond physicians, modern medical and health sciences require professionals capable of independently interpreting results. This calls not only for practical skills but also solid theoretical grounding based on current knowledge. The field needs specialists who can operate advanced instruments, understand the principles behind measurements, are proficient in modern data processing methods, and are capable of continuously expanding their theoretical and practical expertise in the long run.
“I hope the knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm for science you gained at your Alma Mater will accompany you throughout your careers. With these experiences, you will overcome the challenges ahead. I wish you success and fulfillment as you use your knowledge for the benefit of patients, science, and society,” the dean concluded.
In total, 55 students completed the required studies and examinations in the undergraduate program in medical diagnostic analytics, 17 in the health psychology master’s program, and 19 in the molecular biology master’s program. All took their professional oaths during the ceremony.
“Dear newly graduated medical diagnostic analysts, certified health psychologists, and certified molecular biologists! With your studies and determination, you have earned your diplomas and now face the noble task of upholding the prestige of your profession and contributing to the advancement of our people. I wish you much success and joy in your future careers!” said József Tőzsér, Vice-Rector for Sectoral Development in Life Sciences at the University of Debrecen, following the oath ceremony.
At Saturday’s event, 91 graduates received their diplomas.
Sixteen students were awarded a DETEP Certificate in recognition of their work in the University of Debrecen’s Talent Management Program (Enyedi Nóra, Gáspár Tekla, Hegedüs Éva, Holló Gerda, Homoki Eszter, Janovák Luca, Kati Zsanett, Kovács Bence, Lőrinczi Viktória, Máthé Nóra Beatrix, Orsós István, Szabó Balázs, Tillmann Brigitta, Ungvári Dorka Réka, Mwaimbe Alexander Aswa, Mwangi Yvonne Wanjiku).
Ungvári Dorka Réka also received a Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding participation in the training program of the Sántha Kálmán College for Advanced Studies.
Upon the recommendation of the Medical and Health Science Student Research Council, the József Török Award was presented to newly graduated molecular biologist István Orsós for his outstanding research work and academic achievements.
Four students—Viktória Csuka, Judit Fekete, Elizabet Kocsi, and Áron Semsey—received Certificates of Recognition from the President and Vice President of the Student Government for their professional and public contributions at the University of Debrecen.
