The Monday afternoon storm caused significant material and environmental damage on the campuses of the University of Debrecen. No personal injuries were reported, but full restoration may take up to two weeks.

On the university’s main campus at Egyetem Square, two trees fell onto cars, and one tree collapsed onto a vehicle at the Kenézy Gyula campus—fortunately, no one was injured at either location.

At the Nagyerdei campus, part of the metal roofing of the Central Pharmacy was torn off and struck the roof structure of the neighboring Nuclear Medicine building, causing damage. On the Böszörményi Road campus, the roof of the cattle pavilion collapsed, destroying the fence, ball-stop netting, and its supporting poles.

According to initial estimates, the storm’s powerful winds damaged or uprooted approximately 150–200 trees across the university campuses, with many falling onto roads and fences.

University maintenance staff are working continuously to ensure roads and walkways are passable and to prevent further damage to buildings. As full restoration may take up to two weeks, visitors to the campuses are asked to move with caution.
