At this year’s Campus Festival, the University of Debrecen once again aims to showcase the diversity it represents. Wooden houses have already been set up next to the Nagyerdei Stadium, where the faculties and various organizational units will present themselves with spectacular and entertaining programs. This year, a new venue joins the university’s colorful festival offerings: the Sports Diagnostics, Lifestyle and Therapy Center (SET Center). During Tuesday’s press tour of Campus Festival, preparations were showcased.

At the University of Debrecen’s SET Center, festivalgoers will be welcomed with screenings and consultations. Visitors can participate in vision tests, glaucoma screenings, body composition analysis, and more at this new festival venue, where experts from the Department of Family and Occupational Medicine, the Emergency Clinic, the Eye Clinic, the Medical Imaging Clinic, and the Biomechanics Laboratory will also be present to engage with visitors.

“At the SET, festivalgoers can mix their own personalized creams, learn key self-examination techniques, use ultrasound to observe their vascular system, joints, as well as organs in the abdominal and pelvic cavities. They will also learn how to perform foreign object removal maneuvers, practice resuscitation techniques, and use semi-automated defibrillators,” said Professor Sándor Szántó, medical director of the SET Center.

The University of Debrecen’s faculties and units will showcase themselves at their usual location next to the Nagyerdei Stadium, in twelve wooden houses. At the University Square, from 4 p.m. every day, spectacular entertainment programs await festivalgoers. Visitors can try laboratory activities, such as determining their blood type with a quick test or using a vein scanner. They can examine pre-prepared blood smears to compare samples from healthy individuals and patients diagnosed with hematological diseases. Those interested can conduct cooling experiments with dry ice or even make a DNA cocktail.

A robot waiter will also be on duty at the wooden houses. Visitors can test their dexterity at the “screwdriver box,” try literary Tinder by matching photos of famous authors with their profiles, or play the “Literary RAPertoire” game by searching for poetic references in popular song lyrics.
At University Square, visitors can sign symbolic festival marriage contracts, learn about self-driving car technology through a model vehicle, take book selfies, craft unique bracelets, and experiment with facial expression recognition software to see how good their poker face is. Through the Mental Roulette, they can also conduct a bit of self-examination.
Participants receive stamps in a symbolic gradebook for each activity completed. Those who collect enough stamps will be treated to a refreshing MÉK juice or a Mád spritzer at the Caribbean Bar.

“The University Square is becoming more popular each year among faculties and organizational units. This year, many applied, and we selected those offering the most exciting and colorful programs. Around 300 university staff and volunteers are involved in organizing the activities,” said Mónika Rőfi, head of the University of Debrecen’s Event Coordination and Alumni Center, to hirek.unideb.hu.

Besides the spectacular activities, the UniPass Stage at University Square will host engaging afternoon discussions featuring the university’s top student athletes. Topics with university experts will include healthy lifestyles, the bitcoin revolution, the criminal law aspects of animal cruelty, and even insights into cow behavior.
In the evenings, visitors can enjoy performances by artists and bands such as Bálint Gájer, the Bea Palya – Jenő Lisztes duo, Nikoletta Szőke, Miklós H. Vecsei and QJÚB, Ádám Beretka, Soma Nóvé and Sándor Csoóri Jr., Tamás Molnár, Zian Jazz Planet featuring Dorottya Jéger, PG Csoport, Street Sixteen, and the Debrecen Zither Orchestra.

Diversity of genres will once again characterize the University of Debrecen’s music stage this year. At one of Campus Festival’s largest music venues, performers will include Bogi Nagy, ajsa luna, L.L. Junior, BSW and the GANG, Sub Bass Monster, Irie Maffia, Punnany Massif, Animal Cannibals, HENN, Mary Nótár, Wellhello, Happy Gang, SunCity Brass, Mehringer, Feró Nagy and Beatrice, György Korda and Klári Balázs, as well as Tibi Dévényi.

With modern adaptations of rock classics, the university-affiliated Impact Project will once again entertain the audience with joyful music-making at this year’s Campus Festival. The concert, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, on the Made in Debrecen x Hangfoglaló Stage, will feature performances by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy, Chancellor Zoltán Bács, and Vice-Rector József Tőzsér.

One of Hungary’s largest pop music and cultural festivals, Campus Festival, taking place from July 16 to 19, is once again expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors this year.
