Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine took their professional oath and received their medical diplomas on Saturday. During the ceremonial council meeting, more than 140 Hungarian and international students were awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine.

“We share in your joy on one of the most decisive days of your lives. As we welcome you as our colleagues after taking your oath, let your first thought be one of gratitude. Gratitude to all those who helped you become physicians: first and foremost your parents, friends, supporters, fellow students, and last but not least your teachers. I sincerely hope that you encountered true teachers—people from whom you learned not only professional knowledge but also humanity,” said László Mátyus, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in his ceremonial address.

The dean emphasized that the graduates earned their medical degrees at one of Hungary’s largest and most prestigious universities and medical faculties, one that has proven itself on a European level. The University of Debrecen has always been characterized by stability and continuous development. It has remained open to new ideas while preserving the core values of medical education and maintaining its commitment to further progress.

“You have chosen a wonderful profession: helping people who are suffering. Could there be a nobler goal? As a parting message, let me encourage you by saying that you possess the modern knowledge necessary to meet the high expectations placed on physicians. At the same time, even in this celebratory moment, I must remind you that meeting those expectations requires lifelong learning and self-improvement. Never forget that while a doctor’s duty is to heal, this is not always possible. Often our work is limited to easing the suffering of patients. Yet we must never neglect our human responsibility to provide emotional support to those who turn to us for help,” Professor Mátyus stressed.

Following the dean’s remarks, both Hungarian and international graduates took the medical oath.

“By the authority vested in us as Vice-Rector and Senate of the University of Debrecen, we hereby confer upon you the title of Doctor of Medicine as a reward for your studies and grant you all the rights and privileges that belong to medical doctors under the law,” said Professor Dénes Páll, Vice-Rector of the University of Debrecen.

More than 140 students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Debrecen—80 Hungarian citizens and 62 international students—received their diplomas during the ceremony held in the university’s Main Courtyard on Saturday.
