Actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home. According to the police, they fell victim to a homicide on Sunday.
The news of their deaths was first announced by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in a post on her social media page. Initially, the police officially confirmed only that two bodies were found at the couple’s Brentwood residence.
Investigators determined that the director and his wife had suffered stab wounds, and a representative of the Los Angeles Police Department described it as a clear case of murder. Authorities have not reported any suspects. Following the news of Rob Reiner’s death, several people, including actor Billy Crystal—who starred in the 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, directed by Reiner—appeared at his home.
Several other well-known figures from the film industry expressed their condolences. In a statement, California Governor Gavin Newsom highlighted Reiner’s “extraordinary contribution to humanity,” while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass voiced her shock and expressed solidarity with Andrew Kolvet, the spokesperson for Turning Point USA, founded by Charlie Kirk, who was murdered in September.
As an actor, Rob Reiner’s first notable role was in the sitcom All in the Family, which aired from 1971 to 1979, appearing for eight years across nine seasons. His well-known films as a director include The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men.
