XX. Spring Festival – Tonight Rhoda Scott

This year`s event will be the twentieth in a row. The artistic diversity is one of the main strength the Spring Festival of Debrecen, which one opening on the 15th of March. All artforms will be represented offering new, unique and exciting variety.

Janos Halasz, Deputy Mayor for Cultural Affairs held a press conference on the 8th of March. He said
"The Spring Festival is the city`s image shaping festival and after the harsh and cold winter can provide refreshing energy to Debrecen. The Festival will take place in Debrecenwith the significant financial contribution of the city togetherwith the support of outsiders and enterpreneurs. 17.5 million forints of the Festival`s 30 million forints budget will be financed by the city."
The main goal is to exceed last year`s viewer number (14 000). This will not be easy but they got the chance seeing the list of programmes.
Artist from seven countries will be take part in the events together with respected and well-known hungarians.
The festival`s opening event will be the opening of the 19th Debrecen Spring Exhibition in Medgyessy Ferenc Memorial Museum.
The exhibition hosts artworks of contemporary art enable to find new talents and set up new directions, creative path to follow. The exhibition closing on the 18th of April.
The opening concert -Sonata evening with Zoltan Kocsis and Barnabas Kelemen-of the Festival will be in Great Hall of Kolcsey Centre on the 15th of March.
On the 18th of March a living legend, one of thebest representative of the authentic american jazz,Leroy Jones trumpeter and the Jazz Steps Band will play the 1930s and 1940s swing-era classics. Contributing Micheller Myrtill.
This will be the first time when audience can hear Rhoda Scott`s performing in Debrecen. As the queen of Hammond organ she plays with undiminished energy and passion…you can see her on the 19th of March in Kolcsey Centre.

On the 22nd of March the Orlai Production Office and Thalia Theatre will perform the shocking and humorous comedy, Sam Bobrick`s "Mom is kissing you!".
The Bibliotheque Pascal has received recognition on the 41st Hungarian Film Review. Won the main prize the Golden Reel, the Best Cinematographyand the foreign critics Gene Moskowitz Award. The local premiere will be on the 22nd of March at the Apollo Cinema.
Dhafer Youssef and Ferenc Snetberger`s decade long friendship and musical collaborationinvite the public toa special journey.
You can hear the dual of the arabic lute and the flamenco guitar on the 23rd of March in Kolcsey Centre. You can enjoy the perfect harmony
of arabic, brazilian and flamenco music.
On the 25. March the Francophone Filmnight will be waiting for the film lovers. 5 films -comedy, drama, romantic, thriller- will provide the backbone of the event.
Paco de Lucia will give a concert on the 27th of March in Fonix Hall. The famous flamenco guitarist has published more than 25 albums and won hundreds of prestigious awards. He received the Latin Grammy Award for his best flamenco album, Cositas Buenas.
Dynamics, hot passion and sensuality are characterizing the presentation of the Argentinian Tango Dance Theatre. The Tango event will be a spectacular contemporary music-dance production which both challenging the dancers and the audience. The music will be provided by the famous Serbian Tango orchestra the Beltango.
Local musicians founded the LUX band fourty years ago. They have received the Csokonai Award of the City of Debrecen in 1999. They preparing for a birthday party in Kolcsey Centre on the 2nd of April and they not expecting only the crazy twenty years old to participate. Sandor Tikaszhas "invented" the weapon, the twinneck guitar 36 years ago with the two solo guitarists can duelon stage. This set-up is unique in the World.
