There have been new arrivals at the Debrecen Zoo: this time we are happy to welcome 12 new members to our Minnesota miniature pig family! Born after about 4 months of gestation and taken good care of by their mother, the vigorous little piglets thrive very nicely and are soon to reach 1 kg each.
The Minnesota miniature pig is a breed of domestic pig that holds true to its name throughout its lifespan, even in adulthood. While a number of pig breeds can easily reach a weight of 200 kg, mini pigs are only expected to stop at a maximum of 30 to 50 kg. Highly intelligent and obedient, they are widespread as pets in the USA and increasingly popular with European breeders. They are devoted to their owners and friendly to other pets, and, despite their considerable exercise needs, they are suitable for both outdoor and indoor keeping since they can even be house-trained.
