The aim of the program is to recognize the work of home gardeners and encourage more people to create and maintain kitchen gardens in their own yards or in the gardens of relatives and friends. The initiative also promotes growing more vegetables, fruit, herbs, and medicinal plants for personal and family use.
The theme of the 2026 program is “The Year of Organic Products.” As part of this focus, organizers are also interested in learning which commercially available organic products gardeners use to protect their plants from pests and to improve soil quality and crop yields.
The competition is open to kitchen gardens established on privately owned or rented land, as well as balcony gardens. Entrants may apply in several categories, including mini gardens, standard gardens, community gardens, and allotment gardens. A single gardener may enter more than one garden, provided that a separate application form is completed for each entry.
