According to a statement from the HUN-REN Kövesligethy Radó Seismological Observatory of the Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake occurred near Csongrád, in Csongrád-Csanád County, on October 22, 2025, at 00:50 local time.
The quake was felt by residents in Csongrád and nearby settlements. So far, no reports of damage have been received by the observatory or by disaster management authorities.
The institute said it is investigating whether this latest tremor is related to the seismic events that occurred during the summer or to any of the currently active structural fault lines identified in Hungary.
Preliminary interpretations of the summer Csongrád seismic events suggest that they were not likely linked to the currently active NE–SW fault zones, but rather to deeper structures associated with the compression of the Pannonian Basin. The detailed analysis of this earthquake and any possible aftershocks will provide a clearer geological understanding of the phenomenon, the statement added.
