The University of Debrecen hosted a delegation from Zhangjiajie College, China. The Far Eastern higher education institution, which has nearly 20,000 students, offers a wide range of programs, including 52 undergraduate courses. The delegation was particularly interested in the university’s arts programs.
The meeting, organized with the assistance of the Hungarian Consulate General in Shanghai, was led by Zheng Jianguo, professor at the School of Arts, chief advisor to the Chinese Symphony Orchestra Development Foundation, and member of the Council of the Shanghai International Cultural Association. The guests were welcomed by Károly Pető, general vice-rector of the University of Debrecen (DE), and Okszana Kiszil, director of coordination and strategy.
The delegation focused mainly on the programs and activities offered at the DE Faculty of Music (ZK) and the DE Confucius Institute. During the discussion, Károly Pető also provided information about the programs at the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) and the Faculty of Child Education and Special Needs Education. Since Zhangjiajie College also offers nursing education, English-language programs available at DE’s Faculty of Health Sciences were also discussed.
It emerged during the meeting that the guests strongly support arts initiatives; for example, they organized the 40th Shanghai Spring Music Festival this past March. Their plans include holding a large-scale Chinese fine arts festival in Debrecen, titled China Stage, lasting three to five days. Both parties agreed to continue discussions, involving the Faculty of Music and the Confucius Institute, to work out the details.
Every year, more Chinese students study at the University of Debrecen, with their number now exceeding 400. Most choose the Faculty of General Medicine, the Faculty of Science and Technology, or the Faculty of Informatics.
