Snowdrift: Red alerts issued for 4 Hungarian counties

The Hungarian Meteorology Service has issued red weather alert for four Hungarian counties because of snowdrift.

Weather alerts:

  1. Snowdrift:

Red weather warning was issued for the following counties: Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar, Heves and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. Amber alert was issued for Budapesten, Pest county, Bács-Kiskun, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Nógrád, while yellow alert was issued for Baranya, Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Komárom-Esztergom, Tolna, Vas and Zala.

  1. Sleet and rain:

Amber alert for Baranya, Somogy, Tolna and Zala, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád, Hajdú-Bihar and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok. Red alert was issued for Budapest and Pest county.

Besides rain, sleet, snow and snowdrifts, stormy wind is also expected in the whole country.

 

What the colors mean:

  • Yellow:  Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities.
  • Amber: There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting you, which could potentially disrupt your plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.
  • Red: Extreme weather is expected. Red means you should take action now to keep yourself and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely. You must avoid dangerous areas and follow the advice of the emergency services and local authorities.
