A freight train struck a person early Wednesday morning on the outskirts of Cegléd, at the railway crossing leading to Kengyeldűlő. As a result, significantly longer travel times were expected during the morning hours on the main Budapest–Cegléd–Szolnok–Debrecen–Nyíregyháza–Záhony line, the MÁV Group informed MTI.
Due to the accident, passengers initially had to transfer to replacement buses between Cegléd and Abony in suburban traffic, while long-distance trains operated on diverted routes between Budapest and Szolnok. Train services were temporarily suspended between Cegléd and Abony because of the accident investigation.
Trains ran on a detour between Nyugati Railway Station and Szolnok, skipping stops at Zugló, Kőbánya-Kispest, Ferihegy, Cegléd, and Abony. Additional temporary measures included shuttle trains between Abony and Szolnok, and limited service on certain regional lines, with some cancellations expected. Shuttle and diverted trains were not trackable in the train information systems.
Update:
According to the MÁV Group, the timetable on the Budapest–Cegléd–Szolnok–Debrecen–Nyíregyháza–Záhony main line is expected to be restored during the late morning. The restriction between Cegléd and Abony caused by the accident has ended, and train traffic has resumed on both tracks.
Based on the latest information, passengers no longer need to transfer to replacement buses, and long-distance trains can once again operate on their original routes. However, delays, cancellations, and shorter routes may still occur until the timetable is fully restored later in the morning.
