The duty officer of the Debrecen Police Headquarters noticed a suspicious person late Saturday night who was inspecting a construction site in the city center.
He questioned the man, and a scooter part was found in his backpack. The suspect gave contradictory statements several times before finally admitting that he had stolen two scooters, which the officer later found nearby.
The 52-year-old thief was taken into custody and placed under criminal detention for theft. He was brought before the court in a fast-track procedure.
Investigators have returned one of the scooters, while the owner of the other is still being sought.
