The university collection points were full in two days, so the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service will be delivering the student donations donated to help the Ukrainian refugees from Wednesday. The Special Medical- and Rescue Group of the University of Debrecen is also leaving Ukraine with more than 3 tons of equipment.
Since Monday, the Student Self-Government of the University of Debrecen has been collecting donations from the university’s seven campuses, so DEHÖK wants to help the refugees stay in Hungary. Approximately more than a thousand university citizens have joined the initiative so far.
The chairman of the Special Medical- and Rescue Group of the University of Debrecen, András Késmárky, will leave for Ukraine within a few days. He said about 3.5 tons of donations were collected from supporters and sponsors to the hospitals there.
The biggest problem is that there is no supply of medicines and bandages, and we want to help with that. We are expected to close our collection on Thursday and start organizing the delivery because this is a fairly large amount of medical equipment. We’re going on a trip with him next week. We mainly pack disinfectants, hand and instrument disinfectants, and smart dressings for traumatic injuries, but we also carry medicines and gypsum for the care of children.
– András Késmárky explained to hirek.unideb.hu.
According to the president of DEKOM, there would still be a great need for a blood product because they know there is very little of it. – In Kharkov, for example, an entire hospital was bombed. Hospitals are very busy, especially there and in Kiev, but for the time being they can provide care for the injured. If necessary, I will stay there to provide medical assistance, ”he added.
The collection continues on weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm on all campuses in Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, and Szolnok. The sports club of the University of Debrecen is still waiting for the offers, the offers can be placed in the DEAC Business Office between 9 am and 3 pm. Experience has shown that, in addition to durable food, raincoats and warm blankets are now most needed.
