At the end of April, the tastes of the world once again filled Debrecen by the University of Debrecen students: the beloved International Food Day was held again, one of the most colorful and popular community events organized by international students. This year, students from over twenty countries presented their national dishes, drinks, and cultural traditions.
The event serves a dual purpose: it allows international students to showcase the culinary heritage of their home countries while also strengthening the bonds and dialogue among Debrecen’s diverse international community. This year’s edition drew significant interest, offering not only tastings but also a chance to experience traditional music, dance, and customs from around the globe.
Countries represented included Albania and Kosovo, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, the Balkan region, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, Egypt, Georgia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Libya, Kenya, China, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe among others. Visitors lined up for spicy dishes, exotic sweets, and unique beverages. Many students dressed in traditional attire to welcome guests, making the event not only a culinary but also a visual experience.
International Food Day is more than a food festival—it’s living proof that Debrecen has become a truly multicultural hub.
The ceremony was celebrated with a group dance, where students from all over the world united in joyful harmony – proving that food can be the easiest way to build bridges between cultures.
